Beef with the Food Industry

Ok, I got some BEEF to be had!!!!!

I got a "I can't believe it's not butter" spray somewhat recently. Probably have only used about 20% of it. Anyhow, the PG noticed that it said, "Sell by March 21, 2008". So, this put me into a tailspin as to what the food industry is trying to do to us.

Does this mean as long as I buy it before then, which I did, I can use it forever?? Does it mean it "expires" a few months after the sellby date? I wouldn't imagine people would by something on 3/21 and not be able to use it for a couple months at least?

Anyhow, anyone got input in this? Why couldn't it just say, "EXPIRES on XXX date"!!!!! All this "sell by", "best by", etc....

Leave it to the food industry to make things craazzzzzzy!!!!!!!!!!

I *think* sell by means that you can use it after that date without any harm. But with meat, it always says "use or freeze by." So, definitely use it or freeze it by that date, then use quickly after thawing. Meat makes me most nervous.

Also, I stretch the expires on dates. If it's cereal or something boxed or canned, I don't worry too much about it. Those things are so loaded with preservatives anyway, I don't think you'll hurt yourself within a few months (like 3-6).

Here's a link I found, and they disagree with me in some ways. http://homecooking.about.com/library/weekly/aa102102a.htm

Fisher said to tell you that he eats bread a month after it expires.

Man this one has a long verification code! Eight letters!

LOL that is the longest comment I've ever seen! hehe I say no matter what the date says, whether it's sell by or use by, etc. - stop using it on that date! hehe ;)

Oh and by the way, it doesn't look like you have to approve comments - might want to check your settings??? I love you!!

I know! As I was writing it, I did think about emailing it! Must be a subject I've been thinking a lot about subconciously!
